Coombe Abbey was founded in 1150 AD by Cistercian Monks; it was known as the Abbey of Cumbe. It has an illustrious past; dissolution by King Henry VIII, private residence to royalty, involvement in the infamous Gunpowder Plot, to name but a few. Today it welcomes guests from far and wide and continues to go from strength to strength.
