First built in the 13th century, and then rebuilt in the 16th century as the home of the Maitland family, Thirlestane Castle sits amidst a quiet meadow landscape in lowland Scotland yet is only 25 miles south of Scotland's capital, Edinburgh.
The five self-catering apartments within the castle provide an eclectic mix of contemporary and original castle furniture and furnishings. Apartments can also be booked together to accommodate groups of up to 16 adults.

The Earl & Countess (sleeps 6)
A three-bedroom apartment on the second floor, this space was formerly the private quarters of the 14th Earl and Countess of Lauderdale. Accessed by one of the castle's grand sweeping staircases and offering fabulous views out over the parkland!

The Maitland (sleeps 4)
A two-bedroom apartment in Thirlestane Castle's historic south-wing, with its own private access. Four full height windows flood the space with light and offer panoramic views across the parkland!

The Glenburnie (sleeps 2)
A one-bedroom apartment set in the heart of the historic south-wing. This open-plan space is dominated by large portraits by George and John Scougall from the castle's collection featuring two of the castle’s forbears.

The Sculleries (sleeps 2)
A one-bedroom apartment accessed through the mezzanine of the castle's Cobbled Courtyard. Double height windows throughout give guests breathtaking views out over the gardens and beyond.

The Lauderdale (sleeps 2)
A one-bedroom apartment set in the historic south-wing. Once the butler's apartment, the more traditional baronial style is present throughout this apartment's soft furnishings. The luxurious free-standing roll-top bath is one of this apartment's biggest selling features!
