History
Lumley Castle, located in County Durham, has a rich history dating back over 600 years. Originally built in 1389 by Sir Ralph Lumley, the castle was constructed to serve both as a defensive stronghold and the family seat of the Lumley family. Sir Ralph, a distinguished knight and military leader, was granted the land by Richard II, and the castle’s location overlooking the River Wear provided a commanding view of the surrounding area, as well as strategic defence.
