This imposing fortified 14th-century castle hotel is set in a private, 12-acre woodland estate complete with delightful landscaped grounds and gardens. It boasts award-winning fine-dining and prides itself on its attentive hospitality and regally-styled, atmospheric interiors. Langley Castle resides just outside the market town of Hexham. It is less than an hour from both Newcastle and historic Durham.

The Castle

Once inside the castle door, set snugly in a deep stone alcove, the old-world charm makes for an extremely pleasurable stay and the character of Langley will remain with you long after you leave the comfort of these ancient walls. Uniquely styled and thoughtfully-named bedrooms create romantic private retreats in this historic castle, whilst the delicious cuisine allows you to appreciate the fresh, seasonal produce from the castle garden alongside delectable meats and fish from the local areas.

Langley’s distinct history and atmosphere emanates from each of the nine uniquely decorated and individually-named castle bedrooms. Relish the rich fabrics, detailed design and ornate four-poster beds. Many of the bedrooms feature deep-set window seats, high ceilings and exposed stonework, whilst some additionally feature a sauna, spa bath or a fireplace. All castle rooms have luxurious en-suite bathrooms.

Castle View Rooms (19 bedrooms, sleeping 42 guests)

The traditional and elegant Castle View Rooms on the Langley Estate are just 80 metres from the castle (opt for a Deluxe Castle Room for a luxurious four-poster bed). The Lodge offers fabulous views of the castle and grounds; a historic setting combined with 21st-century facilities creates a comfortable and authentic stay.

Langley Castle’s Josephine Restaurant is known for being one of Northumberland's best, and specialises in local produce and game, alongside seasonal fish. Enjoying a romantic location within the castle, it serves a seasonally-changing menu within an atmospheric space that features stone walls, wood beamed ceilings and chandeliers. Indulge in a fine-dining experience, where stunningly-presented, creatively-designed dishes are served with attention to detail.

In the morning prepare, for your day ahead with a traditional Northumberland breakfast and later enjoy afternoon or cream tea or a light snack in the Drawing Room.

History

Built in 1350 during the reign of Edward III, Langley Castle has retained its architectural integrity throughout the years and is regarded as one of the few Medieval fortified castle hotels in England. Over the past 600 years, the castle has been owned, together with its estate, by lords and ladies, whose names were frequently associated with the turbulent history of the kingdom.

Newcastle City Centre is within 40 minutes of Langley Castle. Newcastle Central Station is a 43-minute drive from the hotel; you can take a connecting train to Hexham (taxis available at the station) or Haydon Bridge (local taxis available). Newcastle is approximately a three-hour journey from London by train.
