Set in the scenic countryside of the Scottish Highlands, Innes House is set amongst extensive walled gardens of a private country estate in the heart of Morayshire. The 17th-century façade, awash with a pale yellow harl and sash windows, fronts the two four-story wings and a massive square tower. It backs onto rolling farmland and the spectacular mountains of Cairngorm National Park, west of the historic Spey Valley.

Enter along a tree-lined drive into mature parkland, surrounded by fields panning out into the distance, and delight in this charmingly designed, turreted castle with its chimneys, gables and steep rooftops, as it emerges into view. Walk through an impressive ancient courtyard and an original stone arched vestibule at the main entrance to the property, before entering an atmospheric reception area.

Innes House is well located to offer the ideal setting for family holidays, private celebrations, corporate events or rural activity retreats. The 5000-acre estate is home to ample woodland and fairy-tale gardens, where you can take a peaceful stroll before dinner. You could also walk off your hearty Scottish breakfast up in the mountains, or watch the children run along the nearby beach.

The House

Innes House is first of all a private family home; it might be grand and elegant, but it instantly relaxes guests with its warm and welcoming atmosphere. The dedicated team have a passion for hospitality within a historic setting, which shows through every attention to detail, from the roaring open fires on your arrival to the plentiful throw cushions to the presentation of every space.

Regardless of whether you opt for a fully-staffed or self-catered stay, you will have the property entirely to yourselves. Innes House sleeps 38 guests across 20 bedrooms, each lovingly decorated in gentle hues and floral patterns.

Additional guest accommodation is available on the estate in the two-bedroomed Gate House. Viewfield Farmhouse (six bedrooms).

Public Rooms

Inside this treat of a castle there are a selection of delightful public rooms with open fires, including The Drawing Room, The Old Library, Whisky Room and Billiards Room.

Wide hallways adjoin the rooms, giving a free-flowing feel to the living areas. Opulent, heavy fabrics adorn large windows, and gilded framed family portraits look down from high walls.

Dining

The fully-equipped country kitchen features an AGA, electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge and microwave for self-catered stays.

Should you opt for a fully-catered stay at Innes House, then you can expect to enjoy some delicious traditional cuisine, served in an exquisite contemporary style and with attentive, warm hospitality.

Gardens & Estate

Guests can explore the 5000-acre estate at their leisure, featuring woodland with thousands of trees of different varieties from all over the world, farmland, meadows and paddocks.

The stunning formal gardens are a joyous maze of spaces, separated with deep green box hedges and paths fringed with seasonal wild flowers.

(The working kitchen garden is due to be reinstated in 2025, which will supplement the ingredients for daily dishes at the castle; farming malt, potatoes, broccoli and other vegetables.)

Leisure

The castle and estate offer a wealth of activities to sample, so you can thoroughly enjoy your natural surroundings and life within a castle.

History

Innes House, a seat of the Earl of Fife, boasts a fascinatingly rich ancestry beginning with Sir Robert Innes, who commissioned the property, which was built between 1640 and 1653.
