Historic family home in the south-east of Ireland
The ancient seat of the Esmonde Family is one of Ireland’s hidden gems and a beautiful castle in which to marry. It is set amongst stunning gardens at the foot of the Black Stairs Mountains in the breathtaking setting of County Carlow.
A handsome facade boasts towers and crenelations dotted with long pretty Georgian sash windows that flood the rooms with natural light. The east of the castle features a striking mix of long windows, crenulated ramparts and a terrace from which a split stone staircase leads to landscaped lawns and an enchanting rose garden. To the west the Esmonde wing houses delightful bedrooms and backs onto the original 14th century abbey, incorporating the former family chapel. Beyond lies lush woodlands and a peaceful lake; a country estate waiting to be explored throughout your wedding stay.
From engraved wood panelling to brightly decorated bathrooms to historic tapestries adorning walls, personality brims from every nook in the castle. Stained glass windows, gilded family portraits and hand-carved ceilings are just a few of the treasures kept within these castle walls. Your ceremony
Unique and intimate, your wedding at Huntington will create memories to treasure. The 17th century castle has a selection of stunning spots in which to hold your ceremony, indoors or outdoors. You may opt to walk down the aisle of the romantic abbey ruins under a sunlit sky or cocoon yourselves under the canopy of yew-trees in the parkland, you can relax in the knowledge that when you exchange your vows you have created yet another historic moment at this exquisite castle.
Experience and explore
After reception drinks take your first stroll as newly-weds along the neat gravel paths, Italian-style 'Parterre' and French Lime Avenue planted in the 1600s, taking time to listen to the water cascading from the stone fountain and smelling the variety of roses. After some precious moments together in this magical landscape, gather in front of the castle for a wonderfully dramatic backdrop to your wedding group photographs, with the rich green topiary trees and low box hedges complementing the provincial grey stone of the castle.

Within Huntington’s generous two-night package you can enjoy exclusive use of the castle and grounds, making the most of every beautifully-crafted space to create your own fairytale. The lovely rustic and light 17th century courtyard barn theatre seats up to 90 guests and the castle includes the use of tableware and glassware as well as other useful props on the day.
The knowledgeable team at the castle will also provide you with a selection of trusted local suppliers to choose from to arrange your wedding breakfast and evening entertainment. You may decide that a fine dining experience would suit the two of you best, or perhaps a simple buffet affair or maybe a banquet with musical accompaniment; the choice is yours!
Wedding accommodation
Accommodation within the castle comprises three double rooms and two single rooms, each named after colours, indicating just how cheerful and characterful your wedding celebrations at Huntington will be. Expect fireplaces, original period features and four poster beds in spacious rooms decorated in charming patterns and sumptuous fabrics; each one with many a story to tell.
You and your guests can discuss the delights of your wedding day over a delicious full Irish breakfast the following morning.
Indulge in the option of staying the night before your wedding, waking up refreshed and well rested for your big day ahead knowing that another magnificent room awaits you in the castle that evening.

Location
The castle is located in the historic village of Clonegal, along the beautiful Slaney Valley. To the west it is bordered by the Blackstairs Mountains and to the east County Wicklow. Dublin is approximately 90 minutes' drive away.
