Hedingham Castle is perfect for weddings for up to 70 guests, with an option for larger weddings staged in a marquee within the grounds. The estate accommodates 33 guests overnight, including one unique and very special room at the top of the castle keep.

Function Spaces

The interiors at Hedingham Castle are truly authentic with all rooms reached via spiral staircases.

The Banqueting Hall

Across the lower floors is the magnificent and dramatic Banqueting Hall. With its imposing double-height archway, the hall becomes the perfect space for your wedding ceremony.

Garrison Floor and Bar

Beneath the Banqueting Hall is the Garrison Floor. This houses its very own bar, cosy and comfy alcove seating and disco lighting on tap, making it an ideal dancing and wedding evening celebration space.

Tapestry Room

On the ground floor is the atmospheric Tapestry Room, an enchanting and versatile space. Theatrical low-hanging wrought iron chandeliers and wall-mounted flame lighting make it a most romantic setting for your wedding breakfast.

Your Wedding Day Options

Your wedding at Hedingham could look one of two ways. Depending on the size of your wedding party, you could either spend the entire day in the castle with use of the lawn, or have a ballroom marquee wedding (with some use of the castle’s Banqueting Hall and The Georgian House on the estate). You would be asked to choose from the castle’s selection of five recommended wedding caterers.

Castle Wedding (up to 70 guests)

For small intimate occasions or a larger wedding up to 70 guests, your day would take place predominantly in the castle.

Ceremony & Drinks Reception - Exchange your vows on the floor of the magnificent Banqueting Hall underneath the double-height archway, lit by a myriad of candles. Afterwards, you and your guests would wander downstairs to the Garrison Floor for celebratory drinks where you could spill out onto the lawn. Alternatively, you may say your vows outdoors, on the lawns overlooking the lake or on the Tilting Lawn of the castle.

Wedding Breakfast & Evening Celebrations - Intimate or smaller weddings would enjoy their wedding breakfast and reception in the castle’s Tapestry Room. Later, come back up to the Garrison Floor’s bar area and dancefloor to party into the night. You would be welcome to use this atmospheric space as a nightclub with Hedingham’s in-house DJ. Alternatively, have it play host to a small trio band or quartet – there are limits on the band size because of access restrictions via the spiral staircase.

Marquee Wedding (over 70 guests)

Larger weddings would take place predominantly in a marquee on the estate.

Ceremony & Drinks Reception - Hedingham Castle can accommodate up to 100 seated guests in its Banqueting Hall and a further 30 guests can be seated on the Minstrel’s Gallery above. Alternatively, you may have your ceremony outside or in the marquee.

After the exchanging of vows, your guests can make their way into The Georgian House for celebratory drinks, and also use the accompanying lawns.

Almost dolls-house-like in its detail, The Georgian House has a selection of beautiful, unique reception rooms, each a gorgeous setting for guests to wander through and enjoy. The marquee attaches to the mansion via a covered walkway, allowing for a seamless transition from ceremony space to drinks reception.

Wedding Breakfast & Evening Celebrations - A maximum of 150 guests may be seated in the marquee for your wedding breakfast. An additional 50 guests can be accommodated in the marquee for the evening reception, taking the maximum capacity to 200. There is also ample space for a big band and/or a DJ along with a designated dancefloor.

Wedding Accommodation

The estate offers accommodation up to 35 guests in total, comprising The Royal Chamber (one room in the castle keep itself), The Georgian House, Medieval Lodge and Garden Cottage.

The Royal Chamber – sleeps 2 guests:

Royal Chamber 4

A large room set within the Castle Keep on the very top floor of the building. It features an ornate wooden four-poster, super-king bed with cascading drapes. The room’s interior is a blend of regal reds and golds, lit by two elegant chandeliers and its character is defined by exposed stone walls and wooden rafters. From its hilltop position, The Royal Chamber commands glorious countryside views from authentic alcove castle windows, from which you can see for miles. To add even more decadence, the room includes a double bath which blends seamlessly into the rest of the chamber’s design.

The Georgian House – sleeps 12 guests

The Georgian House 1
The Georgian House 2

Sitting proudly at the heart of the Hedingham Estate you will find this 17th-century mansion. Built by Sir William Ashhurst, The Georgian House is the epitome of stately elegance from its shimmering, symmetrically-arranged sash windows to its luscious, exquisitely designed soft furnishings blended amongst subtle but pretty colour schemes.

The house boasts unspoiled views across the lawns and lakes and can sleep 8-12 guests across 6 en-suite bedrooms. Almost dolls-house-like in its detail, it has a selection of interesting and unique reception and entertaining rooms, featuring a charming mix of heirlooms and ornamental furniture. As guests in The Georgian House, you can look forward to waking up in luxurious bedrooms to the peaceful sound of birdsong, taking a dip in the lake and exploring the vast and stunning gardens and woodland. This is all-in-all a perfect country retreat.

Medieval Lodge & Garden Lodge – sleeps 21 guests

Medieval Lodge 1
Medieval Lodge 2

Quite a contrast to the castle keep and the Georgian mansion, these cosy cottage-style lodges still embody an air of prestige. Situated within the magnificent estate and just a stone's throw from the castle, both provide a relaxing haven.

The Medieval Lodge can accommodate 17 guests across 8 bedrooms whilst Garden Lodge can sleep up to 4 guests in 3 bedrooms. Fresh white walls, exposed brickwork and original wooden beams set the tone for the interiors. Here, with family and friends, guests can cosy up in front of the fire, stretch their legs on a scenic walk and enjoy a BBQ on the terrace; all whilst soaking up the heritage of the estate.

Maria, AustraliaA great experience. I loved the atmosphere of the entire keep. It was fascinating ??
Candice, AustraliaWhat a dream! We were lucky enough to be checked in by the owner who showed us around the whole castle and shared the interesting history of it. The room itself was everything that the photos promised and more. It was beautifully authentic but with all the modern amenities you need for a comfortable stay. The bed was super cosy and I can honestly say that of the 5 weeks I spent travelling Europe and the UK, it was the best night's sleep I had! We took a walk around the grounds and it was just magical. A truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Trusted GuestLovely experience from start to finish - from dealing with Sarah who was extremely friendly and helpful, meeting Kate to show us around the Castle to the actual stay. Despite the noises during the night (which I think (we hope) was the heating), the bed was super warm and comfy and it was a lovely touch with the champagne. My husband was thoroughly pleased with his surprise 50th birthday gift. Thank you
