The character of Forter

Nestled deep in the Scottish countryside, Forter is a true fairy-tale castle. A dry stone wall pillared gateway gives way to reveal its castellated roof and tiny turrets. Dainty windows are dotted amongst the castle’s pretty stone façade and lead the eye down to a traditional wood and iron castle door. Looking beyond, you will be enthralled by its exposed, rustic landscape of thick forest and rolling hills. Deer skipping through the woods and the peaceful sound of a stream set the scene for your idyllic Highland wedding.
Inside, a discovery of delights, from suits of armour, battered books and detailed paintings, take you from room to room. A roaring fires burns in the grate and the soft flicker of flames dance atop elaborate silver candelabras. Dark wood and leather furniture is dressed in traditional luxurious fabrics of greys, blues, golds and cream, and narrow stone staircases lead up to characterful, high-ceilinged rooms set across five floors. Pour yourselves a dram of whiskey and explore this exquisite castle, which seems frozen in time, and imagine your wedding of dreams. From roll-top copper baths to sumptuous sofas, each room and space is incomparably unique and offers a sense of comfort and belonging; what more could you wish for for your castle wedding?
Your choice of ceremony

Forter Castle is committed to creating a bespoke wedding ceremony for you that will also enable you to fully relax and enjoy your special time as newlyweds with your nearest and dearest. The castle is fully licensed to host civil, religious, and humanist wedding ceremonies. You may wish to use the castle’s wonderful small chapel, featuring traditional stained-glass windows. Civil and humanist weddings are very popular at Forter Castle and can be conducted by registrars from within the chapel. The team at Forter will gladly assist with any preparations needed for your ceremony, including putting you in touch with a local registrar, or The Humanist Society of Scotland.
The Great Hall is the hub of the castle and expands the entire width of the beautiful building. It provides a cosy setting for your ceremony, with its hand-painted ceiling - a sure talking point for guests! After exchanging your vows, you and your family and friends can gather closely around the inglenook fireplace as you celebrate with a drink.
Intimate wedding breakfast and catering

Within the Great Hall is where your wedding breakfast will be served. The dining table seats up to 16 and there is also vast soft seating in the form of two large Ralph Lauren sofas and wing-back chairs upholstered in the finest goatskin leather.
You can choose to self-cater, or the team at Forter can put you in touch with local caterers to prepare mouth-watering dishes for your wedding breakfast.
