Dalhousie Castle was designed for entertaining and built to impress. The majestic 13th-century stone building stands proudly in a private parkland estate just eight miles from Edinburgh. Featuring fantastic transport links, the castle is a five-minute drive from the train station and just 16 miles from Edinburgh Airport. Combined with its ample complimentary car-parking, private location and striking interiors, Dalhousie is an ideal location for your business meeting, conference or event.

If you are searching for an away-day or conference venue with an ethos to match your own company’s spirit, then Dalhousie Castle could be the perfect location. Dedicated to maintaining possession of their castle from one century to the next, The Ramsays of Dalhousie proved their bravery battle after battle. Be captivated by the ‘bottle dungeon’, now the wine cellar but originally a gruesome, windowless cell into which prisoners were lowered by rope (you can still see the rope marks worn into the stonework) or inspired by Queen Victoria’s spontaneous visit to “to take tea” in 1840.

Today, the castle is proud to continue its tradition of a dedicated service and hospitality, with modern comforts and facilities guaranteeing guests a friendly, professional welcome. Available to all overnight delegates, Dalhousie boasts the first hydro spa of its kind in Scotland, featuring a vast range of facilities amid spectacular views across the estate; perfect for winding down after a busy day of meetings or teambuilding.

Meetings and Events

Dalhousie has five impressive function and conference suites and the castle’s dedicated and professional event-planning team can assist with every aspect of your corporate stay. Flexible in their configurations and unique in their atmosphere and style, each space has much to offer. You are welcome to book either a day-delegate or 24-hour corporate package for any of the rooms, although they do work especially well when combined through exclusive use of the castle. Whether you require a meeting room for six, a conference space for 140 or dinner for 200, Dalhousie Castle boasts Edinburgh's finest corporate offerings...

The grand Ramsay Room, with its dazzling chandeliers, private bar and outdoor terrace, is full of character, with vaulted arch windows allowing natural light to inspire clarity and focus. The Sir Alexander Room again features a private bar and also a dancefloor, its castle turret giving it further ‘wow’ factor appeal for guests. Either is ideal for large conferences and gala dinners.

Located high in a turret offering panoramic estate views through large windows, the circular Brechin is a meeting space bound to get creative thoughts flowing.

The dignified and airy Gun Room opens onto a ground floor terrace, overlooking the parkland and river making it ideal for boardroom meetings, reception drinks or private dinners.

The rich red hues, ornate fireplace and antique leather furniture helps lend the luxurious Dalwolsey Room as an intimate meeting space or an impressive break-out room for major events.

All rooms feature a licence until midnight with an extension to 1am possible upon request.

Dining

From business lunch to simple buffet to lavish banquet, the food at Dalhousie will become a large part of your corporate experience, with dishes and dining styles designed around your needs throughout the day. Dalhousie’s award-winning chefs can offer either extensive sample menus as part of a range of all-inclusive packages or create bespoke corporate dining menus exactly to your requirements.

With a delicious range of seasonal produce served with precision and flair, Dalhousie Castle is a natural choice for a large-scale corporate event or fine-dining fundraising banquet and never fails to leave delegates impressed.

Team Building

Whether you wish to provide a relaxing treat for your corporate guests or an exciting experience with team-based games, Dalhousie will work hard to accommodate your team-building needs in the scenic and spacious castle grounds. From clay-pigeon shooting to outdoor yoga to nature walks, there is much to enjoy on this estate.

Falconry and Archery

Your team can also partake in two of the most popular Medieval sports…

Dalhousie Castle Falconry houses an impressive selection of birds, including hawks, owls, falcons and eagles, and can tailor your experience to suit your requirements.

Under the guidance of experienced archery leaders and using traditionally-crafted recurve bows with a variety of targets, the archery experience is suitable for all abilities and strengths.

The grounds

Step outside for some fresh air to inspire new thinking after an intense meeting and encourage your team or delegates to wander the eleven-acre grounds during any downtime. Dalhousie’s three suggested walks showcase the best of the estate’s sights and surroundings, whilst also incorporating the woodland and the river.

Further afield…

A tempting add-on for corporate stays, Midlothian is a golfer’s paradise with eighteen scenic courses located within twenty miles of Dalhousie Castle.

A shoot in Midlothian gives you access to outstanding birds, dramatic countryside and a sense of Scotland that can help bring team spirit to your stay with lasting effect.

Treat your employees after a full day of meetings or conferencing with a trip to Glenkinchie Distillery, which offers tours and taster sessions in a stunning location.

Private GuestLovely ancient castle steeped in history. Welcoming staff. Still being refurbished. Our room was a superiour double. Comfortable but a little small I thought. Not like the pictures! The whole place could do with being warm. It was chilly in the lounge and the Dungeon uncomfortably cold. Dinner was amazing. Taste and presentation. Wonderful. Lovely young lady was serving us. Sadly didn't get her name. Good breakfast in the Orangery. Would have given 4 stars if the place was warmer. It really would have made a difference!!
Ruth, United KingdomThe staff were excellent always trying to go that extra mile to ensure our stay was exemplary . The activities over the NY period were excellent we had a great time and would recommend to anyone - beautiful location
Marietjie, South AfricaThe grounds and the building are really impressive. We especially liked the library; the old books were fascinating. All the fragments of history scattered about on the walls were also very interesting. Our rooms were excellent. The refinement of the service in the Orangerie unfortunately did not quite live up to the otherwise excellent experience.
Lorna ,Lovely historic property with great facilities and ease of access to the region.
