History

The Lairdship of Candacraig was first granted to the Anderson family in 1620 and the estate remained with that family for 10 generations until it was sold in 1866 to Sir Charles Forbes.

In the 19th century, Candacraig was enlarged by architect ‘Tudor Johnny’ Smith, who also worked on Balmoral Castle, the Royal Family’s favourite holiday home.

The current owners, Lynne & Marc Lino, bought the property in 2014 from Sir Billy Connolly, a famous Scottish comedian and actor. Prior to this, Candacraig was owned by the iconic founders of the Body Shop chain, Anita and Gordon Roddick.

Linda, United StatesWe had an utterly magical experience. The Candacraig Castle team is the finest group of hosts we have encountered. They were all over every detail and treated us with kindness, care and genuine affection. Katrina, Kimberly, Mark and Chris led the group but everyone on the team was amazing. The Castle itself is so lovely and perfect for a big group. The grounds were gorgeous and we thoroughly enjoyed a falconry experience and our very own Highland Games. Our meals were divine and Katrina set up several excursions for us in nearby towns, including Braemar and a visit to Balmoral. One evening after dinner, we enjoyed a Ceilidh with the most fabulous team of musicians. They taught us some traditional dances and songs. Highly recommend this very special castle with an unparalleled team!

Everyone absolutely loved it.
