Period features and furnishings create an authentic, old-world charm and a long tradition of warm and friendly service make Cabra Castle the perfect retreat from the pace of modern living. The magnificent backdrop of Dún a Rí Forest Park, means there is much to explore, both indoors and out.

Accommodation

Cabra Castle offers a range of luxury accommodation; from authentic Medieval-style castle rooms - complete with four-poster beds - to the more Artisan-style accommodations of the courtyard, featuring old stone walls and delightful views of the walled garden. In contrast, the simpler clean lines of the cottage rooms may appeal to the more budget-conscious visitor. All of the 105 bedrooms are uniquely-designed and appointed with 4-Star facilities.

Castle Rooms

Cabra Castle Hotel has 12 luxury bedrooms in the main castle. These vary in size from the oversized suites, to quaint attic rooms. The individual suites offer unique features - fireplaces in one or two, a private balcony in another, four-poster and canopy beds in others. No two castle rooms are alike and all offer authentic old world appeal.

Courtyard Rooms

The majority of bedrooms are situated in the courtyard. The courtyard is a restoration of the original outhouses and working areas of the castle, which now offers luxurious accommodation in keeping with these traditional buildings. All the bedrooms are individually designed and many contain original features such as beams and stone walls. All the rooms in this area have access to the walled garden. Once you have checked in, you can drive around to the courtyard and park very close to your room. Once parked, if you wish to return in to the castle, there is a walkway back to the hotel through the garden, which takes about two minutes.

Cottage Rooms

There are six charming cottages within the grounds, each just a short walk from the castle and boasting panoramic views of the surrounding woodland. Each cottage has four or five luxurious en-suite bedrooms, stylishly decorated with all the special comforts needed to create that home-away-from-home feel.

Dining

Dine royally on a sumptuous menu in the elegant and intimate surroundings of The Courtroom Restaurant. Located on the first floor, with a commanding view of the gardens and local parkland, The Courtroom offers an award-winning menu featuring the best in Irish cuisine (using locally-sourced and seasonal produce) and is complemented by a comprehensive wine list. Children are welcome, the dress code is smart casual.

Events

Cabra Castle is a great venue for a meeting or conference. The castle has 110 bedrooms and offers a conference capacity for up to 220 delegates. The castle also has a variety of options suitable for smaller groups of different sizes.

Activities

Dún A Rí Forest Park nestles on Cabra Castle's doorstep and, indeed, historically was part of the castle lands. The park is truly beautiful in each of the seasons with blazes of colour as the Rhododendrons bloom in Spring and Summer and stunning Autumn colours. There are plenty of walking trails to choose from, both short and long distance, boasting incredible views to really help you relax.

History

The original Cabra Castle, the ruins of which still stand on high ground above the Wishing Well, was situated to the west of the Kingscourt - Carrickmacross Road.

Trusted GuestWe booked a night here as a surprise for our kids, and expression on their faces when we drove up and they saw the castle was priceless! Overall we all enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, meals were good, and it was fun to explore the building and grounds. A few small areas for improvement... The two bedrooms in the family room are connected by a short hallway. A door or even just a curtain would be nice for some privacy. The only TV is in the "kids" room, so we couldn't watch anything after they were asleep. There were no alternative milk options (oat or soy milk) at breakfast, for coffee or cereal. And apparently it takes too long to turn the coffee machine on to get an espresso coffee at breakfast.
Jasmin, AustraliaThe room was lovely and the food amazing. We had the bed dinner and breakfast package and could not get through all the courses. So much lovely food. The staff were fantastic and the grounds immaculate.
Cathleen, United StatesVery memorable, great rooms, excellent staff-esp the female employee at the registration desk.
Michael, NorwayWhat a lovely stay. The courtyard rooms was very nice, and the beds even nicer. So comfortable. And bathroom amenities great. The castle itself was very nice with a great ambience. The food was also really superb, so all inclusive all we had a lovely stay and would really like to come again
