The Castle

Entering through the main entrance, the turrets and towers of the exterior give way to an exquisite interior featuring high ceilings, chandeliers, carefully chosen furnishings and fine art. Many rooms feature roaring log fires or far-reaching views across the estate.
There is so much to see here; from the avenue of 18th-century lime trees, through to the intimate library, the whole property is steeped in history, with talking points aplenty.
There are four stunning function rooms, full of character, and suitable for private dining, meetings and gatherings, either in an intimate setting or for larger groups of up to 100 people.
Discreet, yet accommodating and experienced staff, will be on hand to cater for your every need.
Accommodation

The castle sleeps 30 guests in 15 spacious bedrooms, individually designed in a sumptuous, yet elegant fashion that will make you feel completely at home. Period furniture sits side-by-side with modern bathrooms that have been installed with great attention to detail. Every one of the bedrooms has tall sash windows that open up to stunning views of the grounds and the countryside beyond. Even the beds have character, with four-poster, two-poster and sleigh beds, along with two bedrooms that can be arranged as twins or doubles.
All bedrooms offer tea/coffee facilities, luxurious bed linens, thick, fluffy towels and L'Occitane bath products. Complimentary WiFi is available throughout the castle.
Cottages
For larger groups, the estate is home to eight secluded cottages, between them offering accommodation for an additional 49 guests. The cottages are let on a self-catering basis with the option of joining castle guests for dining and socialising.
The Gardens
Beautifully integrated into the 200 acres of parkland that make up the estate, the unique gardens are something to behold. They were originally laid out back in 1816 and much of the landscaping still remains to this day, most notably the unique walled garden.
The rising ground to the south allowed the landscapers to create an unusual three-walled perimeter. During its construction, the main wall was built with flues installed so that it could be heated to protect the precious fruit trees during the colder Scottish months.
With well-established woodlands, beautifully manicured lawns, an avenue of 18th-century lime trees and many other magnificent vistas, amateur and professional photographers alike will be spoilt for choice when it comes to capturing precious moments in the gardens of Blairquhan.
Leisure
For the more energetic, a plethora of activities can be arranged on the estate and surrounding area.
History
The castle as it stands today was completed in 1824. However, the original tower-house was erected on the site back in 1346 and, remarkably, only four families lived on the estate from that date until 2012 when the current owners bought the property.
Blairquhan Castle was used as a replacement for Balmoral Castle in the 2006 Oscar-winning motion picture ‘The Queen’, starring Helen Mirren, as well as featuring in many other films and television programmes.
