Cocooned in tranquil woodland within the atmospheric Moffat Hills and boasting 34 acres of magnificent Italian gardens and a peaceful private lake, this captivating castle becomes a breathtaking scene in any season. Wide bay windows are framed by gently draped fabrics and, in the spring and summer months, the ancient stone walls exude a palpable romance adorned in delicate wisteria reaching up to the gabled rooftops.

The enchanting parkland setting, combined with the castle’s romantic façade, makes it a most spectacular backdrop for wedding photographs. From the romantic pillar-framed vestibule, with its ornate lantern chandelier and white-rimmed arched windows, to the wild mountainous landscape and serene lake glimmering in the moonlight, you can create the most wonderful memories.
Your wedding day
Auchen Castle provides a wonderful setting both outdoors and in, with spaces perfectly formed to host your unique wedding. The property recommends a list of suppliers who can help style your special day and offers an array of packages to suit your requirements. You can even have the flexibility to elongate your wedding celebrations by adding another night either side of your wedding day or choose the elopement package for just the two of you.
Ceremony
Outdoor ceremonies look splendid out on the front lawn, framed by the ancient ornate stone wall dotted with elegant flowering planters, which surround the delightful and well-tended Italian gardens. The tall, billowing blooms that fringe the edge add a sense of romance, whilst the lush lawn interspersed by symmetrical, gravel paths provide a tranquil and scenic setting for your nuptials and reception drinks. Add the magic touch of a Scottish piper to pipe you or your guests into the ceremony.
Alternatively, choose to exchange your vows in one of the reception rooms with their sophisticated interiors showcasing cascading chandeliers and elaborate mirrors. Your guests will watch you exchange your vows before an ornate fireplace or grand bay window with the breathtaking lush landscape beyond.
Wedding breakfast
Delicious and creatively presented, your wedding breakfast is sure to be savoured by you and up to 110 guests. Featuring seasonal ingredients sourced from the Scottish Borders and surrounding areas, Auchen Castle serves the freshest vegetables alongside the finest meat and fish.
Whether an intimate feast on a long dining table or a grand affair in one of the larger reception rooms, this historic castle will deliver exquisite attention to detail, from the styling of the tablescapes to the refined sparkling glassware and crockery.
Into the evening
Additional guests can join your wedding party in the evening to enjoy further celebrations in Auchen’s flexible spaces. Take your first dance together as a married couple under shimmering chandeliers, cut the cake using a sword (another fabulous photo opportunity!) and invite up to 150 guests to party with you into the night with a DJ and disco or even a Ceilidh.
Accommodation
The 26 individually-designed bedrooms, all en-suite or with private bathroom, boast characterful features, decadent furnishings and tactile fabrics and wall coverings in stunning shades and prints. Your guests will be besotted with the enchanting views from any of the castle’s boudoirs. Auchen Castle sleeps 52 guests in total.

Location
Auchen Castle is situated on a thickly-forested estate before a dramatic, mountainous landscape of Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish Borders; a beautiful and unspoiled part of Scotland. This historic castle offers breath-taking scenery and a multitude of walks.
With its independent shops and charming cafes, the local town of Moffat is also rich in history and culture and a mere ten minutes’ drive away from the castle. Its conservation area boasts characterful buildings, theatres, art galleries and shops.
The picturesque estate is only a few miles from the A74(M), which forms part of one of Scotland’s major motorways and offers an easy connection to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, which are just over an hour away.
