A spectacular hideaway in the Outer Hebrides, known for its warm welcome and outstanding fishing and field sports

A visit to Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate lets you experience the facilities of one of the finest sporting estates in Scotland.

Set amidst the dramatic and pristine wilderness of the Outer Hebrides, you’ll find outstanding salmon and sea-trout fishing, plus excellent red-deer stalking and rough shooting.

Your sporting requirements are more than catered for with advice and guidance from the Estate Manager and his excellent team.

The Castle

Amhuinnsuidhe Castle is sold on a weekly basis for exclusive use, sleeping 18 adults.

There are 12 individually designed bedrooms, many of which have original features, excellent views and provide a luxurious base for your stay. All are equipped with tea-making facilities and the bathrooms feature deluxe toiletries, bathrobes and slippers.

There are 7 double rooms, 2 twin rooms, and 3 single rooms.

Reflecting the castle’s Victorian origins, the spacious public rooms have high ceilings and generous proportions, whilst also offering comfort and an informal feel. Home to important works of art and beautiful antiques, all the principal rooms are on the first floor, typical of Scottish castles of the period.

During your stay, enjoy the ever-changing sea views from the drawing room, entertain friends and family in the grand hall, or enjoy a few frames of snooker in the billiard room.

Dining

The cuisine at Amhuinnsuidhe Castle showcases the best ingredients that producers have to offer from across Scotland. Most of the seafood is collected right on the doorstep, with the Hebridean waters boasting probably the finest shellfish in the world.

The philosophy is quite simple: to offer good food prepared simply and cooked to perfection.

In keeping with the original layout of the dining room, guests take dinner and breakfast at one sitting at the banqueting-size table. This room has magnificent views – you can even watch the salmon leaping while you enjoy your breakfast. Dinner is table d’hôte and the castle can cater for all dietary requirements, which can be discussed on booking.

Alcoholic drinks are not included in the prices, but are available at a separate cost.

Private GuestWhere do we start, breath-taking drive to Amhuinnsuidhe, single track road resembles a rollercoaster ride – plenty of stops to pull over, to allow cars by. Tennis Court – literally in the middle of nowhere – speechless! Beautiful white Gates on the entrance to the Castle Grounds, drive round a tight bend on the road, beautiful Salmon river on the left, full view of Castle in sight. Greeted by young, very helpful (Carole) local – Great tour of castle. Gathering all the information we needed, Local Walks, Tour companies – Answered all our questions instantly. Evening Meal, served in one sitting – a little daunting at first however pre dinner drinks - conversation with other guests in full swing. We watching a fishing boat landing close by, we then ate the lobster for main! Local produce at its best! We didn’t want to check out, on to Mull we went….
Private GuestNothing we didn’t like but we were fully aware of the communal dining and the half an hour drive on single track road with passing places to get there. Don’t book expecting glitzy glamour, this is a working estate . We loved it!”
Private GuestStaying at Amhuinnsuidhe is a special experience , like being a house guest in a historic country home. This was our second visit , this time with friends . The setting is wonderful , the house beautifully furnished and the other guests whom we met at breakfast and for drinks and then for dinner were from all over & very good fun. Food is excellent , our introductory tour by Carol Ann was great and service in the dining room and by housekeeping staff was terrific. Harris is a magnificent part of the Outer Hebrides with vast beaches and massive rocky mountains , this is a wonderful place from which to explore it & just chill out. Thanks to all the staff for a memorable stay
