Itinerary

Day 1-2 - Melville Castle

The first stop of your castle tour is Melville Castle! This lovely property is located less than 20 minutes from Edinburgh City Centre, on a private 54-acre estate; Melville Castle has a rich history with records dating back to 1155.

With Melville Castle being located so close to Edinburgh city centre, this is the perfect setting to explore this vibrant Scottish capital city! You can visit the famous Edinburgh Castle and the underground vaults or enjoy a Scotch Whisky Experience! If you prefer to relax at the hotel, you can enjoy a spot of afternoon tea and explore the castle grounds.

Day 3 - Dalmunzie Castle

Less than two hours north of Edinburgh, you will reach the second stop of your castle tour: Dalmunzie Castle; this fabulous castle is nestled in the heart of Glenshee, surrounded by mountains, glens, and rivers - the perfect setting to explore the great outdoors and relax by the fire in the evening.

Dalmunzie Castle is a historic property that offers peace and tranquillity; as quoted by Queen Victoria, "It was so calm and so solitary… all seemed to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoil’s." Queen Victoria’s diary, 1848, en-route to Balmoral via Glenshee.

Day 4 - Tulloch Castle

The third stop of your castle tour is Tulloch Castle; the 12th-century Highland home of Clan Davidson! Tulloch Castle is located just 25 minutes from Inverness.

There is plenty to see and do within a short distance of Tulloch Castle; enjoy a trip to Inverness, or you can even go dolphin watching on Moray, just 15 miles away! Loch Ness is only 28 miles away too.

Fun fact! There is a secret tunnel from the basement of Tulloch Castle across town to the ancient Dingwall Castle. It is now too dangerous to use, as most of it has caved in, and so it was abandoned many years ago. However, there is an air-vent in the middle of the front lawn of Tulloch, down which you can look today and through which you can dimly perceive this tunnel.
