Archery and Air Rifle Shooting
Learn how to use a re-curve bow and have a shot at a range of targets.
Instruction is also given on the safe use of air rifles and air pistols.
Bovey Rangers is perfect for our younger guests keeping them entertained, offering supervised indoor and outdoor activity sessions for 7 to 14 year olds, during school holidays and half terms.
Bovey Rangers activities include; survival skills such as camp fire building, building shelters and camouflage face painting, mega ball games, archery, apple pressing, pond dipping, raft building, canoeing, golf lessons and moorland adventures.
Cider and Sloe Gin Making in the Long Barn
Learn not only how to make cider and sloe gin but learn of the history of cider/sloe gin making. Start the cider making process by crushing the apples in our cider press, taste the freshly squeezed juice and of course sample some cider made by previous guests. Move on to sloe gin making and tasting. During the autumn fresh sloe berries are picked and used to make sloe gin. At other times, seasonal fruits are used.
This activity is interactive and involves some physical effort by participants, a minimum of 4 guests required to work the presses.

Moor Hawk Walk
Go with Martin and fly Harris Hawks on a breathtaking part of Dartmoor. Not only do you have the chance to fly the birds in a natural environment, but also you get a real feel for the National Park at its most dramatic (approximately 1 ½ hours)
Hunting with Hawks and or Falcons
For those who wish to take the falconry experience one step further, sample falconry in its true form with either a full or half day hunting rabbits and other quarry. Martin will give you an introduction to the Harris hawks,dogs and ferrets that will be used. You will be given your hawk for the day and will be instructed in the basics of how to carry and recall it. Once this is completed you shall move to the hunting area to see the hawks in action.
Guests can also be taken out (in season) to see the incredible aerial flight of large falcons hunting Carrion crows on the moor. Hunting can be either 2 ½ hour session or a full day between September and March.
An afternoon spent with birds of prey is quite unforgettable. You meet the hawks, observe their individual characteristics and see close up the wonderful partnership that exists between falconers and their birds. You will get to fly a variety of different birds of prey yourself and all the photo opportunities you could wish for (approximately 1 ½ hours)
Fly fishing instruction and coaching sessions take place on the castle lakes, with our fully qualified instructor Tim James.
This session is a wonderful introduction to fly fishing. You will be taught the fundamentals of fly casting and will usually progress to the extent whereby you can fish. Places are limited to a maximum of 4 guests per session. There is a minimum age limit of 8 years.
Private sessions may be available by prior appointment.
Fishing permits for residents and non- residents for the castle lakes and the rivers Bovey and Teign may be purchased directly from the activities team.
A wide range of fly fishing on rivers and lakes is available both on and off site. Professional guiding is also available by arrangement, for the advancing and experienced angler.
