New Year's Resolutions

It’s that time of year again where you can start afresh, or just try something a little different in 2016. Whatever you are aiming for this year, we thought we’d give you a helping hand...

We took a look at a list of top 50 New Year's resolutions, and here are some that we picked out that you can get started with right away:

Exercise more / More outdoor activities

If the gym isn’t your thing, then why not take up a new activity or re-instate an old one?

Castle Leslie is a great place to get sporty; from horse riding, to kayaking and fishing. There really is something for everyone. And after a day's activities, you can unwind with a spa treatment. The best of both worlds!

Spend less time on social media

Put down your phone! We all know that most of us spend far too much time on our phones and laptops on social media. If only for a day, then put down your phone and re-connect with the world around you.

Whilst not a castle, we feature Corsewall Lighthouse, located by the sea as you would expect; this is a great place to reconnect with the world and blow away the cobwebs.

Spend more time with kids

In the blink of an eye, the children are all grown up and we hear ourselves ask “where did the time go?”. Many of the team at Celtic Castles have children and some of our most magical moments are spent with our families at castles. So make some memories in 2016 and treat your family to a castle stay!

Bovey Castle in the Dartmoor National Park is a real family experience. The 275-acre estate is like a huge playground, with activities designed to give everyone a great time.

Eat better / Improve cooking skills

'You are what you eat' is a saying we hear often. Well, start 2016 as you mean to go on. Brush up on your cooking skills and choose the healthier option.

Swinton Park is a breath of fresh air in the Yorkshire Dales. The Cookery School runs a programme of events throughout the year with hands-on, practical cookery classes.

See more of friends

How many times do you hear yourself saying “we really must catch up soon”? Make 2016 the year that you see more of your friends. Perhaps organise a school reunion, have a relaxing girly weekend or just pick a weekend and get together with friends.

We have a range of self-catering castles, which are perfect for get togethers. Self-catering castles typically sleep up to around 12/14 guests. You have the whole place to yourselves and can even do an online shopping order prior to arrival, so that you have everything you need to cater for your stay.

Our online self-catering calendar allows you to see what is available on the dates best suited to your group. So what are you waiting for?!

Take the stairs rather than a lift

We are full of good intentions, but we might not always have time for the gym. You can, however, still add fitness in to your everyday routine. As you can imagine, when castles were created, they didn’t install lifts! So book yourself in for a castle stay and practise not taking the stairs. I can’t think of a better way!

At Langley Castle you can enjoy a morning tour and take the stairs all the way up to the roof. How is that for a view?!

Travel more

We can certainly help with this one. With castles located in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and France, we'll certainly have one suitably located for you. So pick your destination and travel more this New Year.

Happy New Year from all the team at Celtic Castles!
